Volunteer With Us: Make a Difference in the Capital District
At Sunray Sustainability, we believe real change begins close to home. Our volunteer opportunities connect people of all ages with regenerative projects that strengthen community food systems, support undeserved communities and neighborhoods, build green, and care for the land we share.
From orchard care and trail work to building for good and tending community gardens, your time directly contributes to a more resilient Capital District. These events do not benefit Sunray Sustainability as an organization, rather they benefit one of our partners. Volunteer time spent with us in 2026 will benefit the West Hill Refugee Welcome Center, and Wildwood Programs.
A Different Kind of Volunteer Experience
Volunteering with us isn’t about being handed a tool and told to “work over there.” We believe in true reciprocity—in honoring people’s time, building relationships, and making sure our work parties feel like community gatherings rather than chores.
Our approach includes:
Working together, not dividing and assigning tasks without connection
Learning while doing, whether you’re planting perennials, repairing a trail, or building garden infrastructure
Sharing food, usually homemade, as a way of celebrating our work
Respecting everyone’s energy, abilities, pace, and interests
Enjoying the bounty—herbs, produce, seedlings, or whatever the day’s work makes possible
We want people to leave a Sunray volunteer day feeling nourished, valued, and part of something meaningful.
